Project

Keep Thailand Beautiful

“Keep Thailand Beautiful” initiative is a sustainability project led by The Coca-Cola Foundation Thailand, in collaboration with Circular Economy for Waste-free Thailand (CEWT) under the School of Science at Mae Fah Luang University. ThaiNamthip Coca-Cola actively supports this initiative.

The project aims to establish a sustainable waste management system across Thailand’s most popular and scenic islands. It focuses on promoting the separation of recyclable materials and ensuring they are effectively returned to the recycling process. This is driven through close collaboration with local communities and island-based businesses, encouraging continuous and meaningful participation to preserve the islands’ natural beauty.

One of the key challenges contributing to waste issues on islands is the high cost of transporting recyclable materials to the mainland. To address this, the project supports transportation costs, including boat logistics. This helps strengthen the capabilities of local waste collectors and recycling operators by incentivizing the consistent collection and transportation of recyclables off the islands. In addition, the project provides equipment to enhance operational safety and efficiency, along with systematic data management support. These efforts help improve working conditions and enhance the quality of life for participating waste collectors and operators.

The project was first launched as a pilot phase from August 2021 to October 2022, covering Sichang, Chang, and Mak islands in Thailand’s eastern region. The second phase, from November 2022 to December 2023, expanded to include Larn, Samet, and Kood islands. Building on the success of these pilot phases, the project has been scaled up since 2024, continuing operations across five islands—Chang, Mak, Kood, Larn, and Samet—for a period of three years (2024–2026).

Since data collection began in 2022, the project has successfully collected and transported a total of 7,224.97 tons (7,224,967.77 kilograms) of recyclable materials from participating islands.
